Waste Reduction and Collection

The idea: A block of small business units owned by the Council produced a range of waste items which required a number of skips to be emptied.  The idea was to minimise waste produced and to reduce the number of skips and skip emptying

Results: the review resulted in a reduction in waste and in skips and skip emptying.  It produced an initial saving of £8,000 per annum.

Leadership: Best value undertook a review of waste produced. The ISP (Internal service provider) offered a cheaper service than the private contractor and reviewed the overall number of skips used.

Lessons: Private companies will support the Council’s efforts especially when savings are made.
